The Ducks fall to 9-5 with the setback with all five of their dual losses coming at the hands of ranked opponents.
Cambier moved into the No. 2 spot in the singles lineup and improved to 18-8 overall (10-4 in duals) with his straight set win over CP’s Jordan Bridge (6-4, 6-1).
“I’m very proud of Robin,” head coach Nils Schyllander said. “He’s getting better week by week right now. It’s fun to see him play at a high level once again.”
Cal Poly’s 97th-ranked Andre Dome topped Alex Rovello at No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-4) and had a 2-1 lead with a default win at No. 4 as Jose Izquierdo retired due to injury.
The Ducks had set-point opportunities at No. 3 and 5 singles as Baptiste Faynot led 5-2 in his second set and Duncan MacDonald-Korth also had a chance to grab an early lead to swing things in Oregon’s favor. The Mustangs were able to rally, however, as Alexander Sonneson topped Faynot (6-4, 7-6) and Marco Comuzzo prevailed over MacDonald-Korth (7-5, 6-4). Sebastian Bell also edged Aaron Clissold (6-4, 6-4) at No. 6 singles to round out the dual.
“This was a hard fought dual,” Schyllander said. “We had a couple of set points that could have put us back in the thick of things against a ranked team. Unfortunately, we did not capitalize on those opportunities and we came up short in the end.”
Oregon returns home to open Pac-10 play when it faces No. 53 Arizona at 10:30 in the Student Tennis Center.
