EUGENE – Home will be where you’ll find the Oregon men’s tennis team the rest of the dual season as it starts a season-ending three-match homestand this weekend.

The Ducks (10-8, 1-2 Pac-10) play host to No. 10 California and No. 9 Stanford on Friday and Saturday. Friday’s dual against the Golden Bears begins at 1:30 p.m. while Saturday’s clash with the Cardinal starts at 11 a.m.

Oregon struggled on its trip through Los Angeles last weekend, dropping a tight 4-3 decision to Loyola Marymount before falling to Pac-10 foes USC and UCLA. Despite the setbacks, the Ducks stayed in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association top-75 with a No. 70 ranking. Alex Rovello , Duncan MacDonald-Korth and Aaron Clissold each picked up a singles win at LMU while Baptiste Faynot and Jose Izquierdo were victorious in doubles play in the loss to the Lions.

California is 11-5 this season and owns a 2-1 mark in the Pac-10. The Golden Bears have three ranked singles players in No. 17 Pedro Zerbini, No. 65 Carlos Cueto and No. 96 Nick Andrews. California’s doubles lineup is anchored by 22nd-ranked Christoffer Konigsfeldt and Andrews, No. 82 Cueto and Jonathan Dahan and No. 89 Ben McLachlan and Zerbini.

Stanford enters play this week with an 11-5 record of its own and has a 2-1 Pac-10 record to boot. The Cardinal also have three ranked singles players in No. 11 Bradley Klahn, No. 32 Ryan Thacher and No. 60 Alex Clayton. Klahn and Thacher form the No. 4 doubles pairing in the country while Clayton and Ted Kelly also crack the doubles rankings at No. 67.

News and Notes:

Young Guns – The Ducks are relying on a trio of newcomers to anchor the top of their lineup and they have been up to the task so far. Freshman Alex Rovello is 10-7 in dual singles action while playing at the No. 1 spot, junior transfer Baptiste Faynot sports an 8-9 mark in dual singles play and freshman Robin Cambier holds an 11-7 record.

Start Them Young – Beyond the newcomers who fill out the top half of the singles lineup, the Ducks are building their squad with youth. All but 15 dual singles matches and five doubles matches have been played exclusively by players who project to return to the mix next season. Oregon’s roster features only one senior, Duncan MacDonald-Korth , who is 8-7 in dual singles play and 11-11 overall.

Keeping up with the Pac – Oregon served notice to the rest of the Pac-10 that this is a different team with its 4-3 win over previously No. 53 Arizona in the league opener on March 27. The victory snapped a 21-match losing skid in conference play and gave UO its first league win since April of 2007.

Recent Improvement – Oregon has improved in dual competition during head coach Nils Schyllander ’s tenure, winning at least 10 matches in four of the past five years after last year’s 12-11 finish. The last time Oregon has finished with four double-digit win seasons in that span was 1994-98. Prior to this recent stretch, the Ducks had won fewer than 10 duals four-straight seasons and five of the past six campaigns.
