EUGENE, Ore. – The University of Oregon men’s tennis team closes its fall season this weekend, competing at the Nordstrom Open in Seattle. Head coach Nils Schyllander’s Ducks compete Friday through Monday at the Nordstrom Tennis Center on the campus of Washington. The open event will feature many of the top junior and open players in the region.
Action from Seattle will get underway Friday morning. The event features one main draw singles and doubles brackets with consolations matches to be played when possible.
Maasland will be making his 2013-14 debut after recovering from an injury through most of the fall. The Geldrop, Netherlands, native had a remarkable freshman campaign last season, racking up a 23-9 record in singles and a 20-7 mark in doubles. His singles win total ranked as the third highest in UO program history as Maasland secured one of the best freshman seasons Oregon has ever seen.
Maasland drew the No. 4 seed in the Flight A singles and receives an opening round bye into the round of 64.
Amos drew the No. 9 seed in the singles main draw and will meet Portland State’s Nate Chart in the opening round. The Mission Viejo, Calif., native has competed in two fall tournaments this season, picking up four singles victories and a pair of doubles victories.
Sardu will be competing for the third straight tournament this fall and will receive a bye in the opening singles round. Sardu has a 3-2 singles record this season.
Chin, a native of Portland, Ore., will meet Luke Targett in the singles opening round. Chin has also competed at the Aggie Invitational and USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships this fall, winning three singles matches.
In doubles play, Amos and Maasland will be paired together as the No. 3 seed while Sardu and Chin will compete as the No. 4 seed. Both received opening round byes.
