WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – Four Oregon tennis players were placed on the Pac-10 All-Academic teams while three more received honorable mention, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Seniors Pavlina Smatova and Duncan MacDonald-Korth were each named to the first team while junior Douglas Mayeda and sophomore Patricia Skowronski received second-team recognition. Sophomore Aaron Clissold, junior Trudie du Toit and sophomore Julia Metzger each earned honorable mention.

Smatova is coming off a stellar senior campaign in which she led the Ducks with 23 wins in both singles and doubles play. Her singles win total tied for the sixth most in school history and she finished the season ranked 90th in the singles circuit. Her five victories over ranked opponents also topped the Ducks and earned her honorable mention All-Pac-10 status. She also maintained a 3.59 grade-point average as an international studies major during the dual season. This is her second all-academic selection, she earned second-team recognition in 2010.

MacDonald-Korth is earning first-team all-academic honors for the third time in his career. The Miami, Fla., native carried a 3.77 GPA as a cultural anthropology major and posted 11 singles victories this season, his third-straight season with 11 or more singles wins. He also won a career-best seven dual singles matches in 2011.

Mayeda served as a key member in the Ducks’ doubles lineup and finished tied for second on the team with 14 doubles wins. He also went 9-6 in singles play. The Monument, Colo., native held a 3.46 GPA while majoring in business administration through the end of the dual season.

Skowronski spent most of the season as the women’s tennis team’s No. 2 singles player and paired with Smatova as the Ducks’ top doubles team. She ranked second on the team with 13 singles wins and her 22 victories while paired with Smatova on the doubles court were the third most in school history. She finished the season with a 3.56 grade-point average.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
