TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 72 ranked University of Oregon women's tennis team was defeated by the No. 30 Arizona State Sun Devils, 5-2, on Friday (Mar. 23) at the Whiteman Tennis Center in Tempe, Ariz.

The Ducks (8-4, 0-3 Pac-12) have dropped all three of their conference duals.

The Sun Devils (9-3, 1-1 Pac-12) got off to a hot start by sweeping the doubles, something that the Ducks have emphasized as a critical point all year.  The No. 1 tandem of Jacqueline Cako and Hannah James took down Oregon's Patricia Skowronski and Sofia Hager, 8-3.  Clinching the doubles point were Arizona State's Sianna Simmons and Leighann Sahagun who beat UO's Rabea Stueckemann and Pascale Neubert, 8-2.

In singles, sophomore and No. 9 ranked Cako led the charge for the Sun Devils.  The nationally ranked Brier, Wash. native took down Julia Metzger in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0.  Arizona State clinched the match at No. 6 singles when Sahagun defeated Stueckemann, 6-4, 6-1.

Oregon received its best performance at No. 4 singles from Sofia Hager.  The true freshman took the first set, 7-5, over James before James retired trailing, 3-1, in the second set.  The Ducks' other singles victory came at No. 5 singles as Neubert defeated Joanna Smith, 6-4, 6-4.

The Ducks will travel to Tucson, Ariz. tonight and get set to take on the Wildcats of the University of Arizona tomorrow (Mar. 24) at noon.  The Wildcats' dual with the Ducks will come a day after taking on the Washington Huskies and their third match in a stretch of 10 conference duals in a row.
