TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 72 ranked University of Oregon women's tennis team dropped the second dual of their three-match road trip to the No. 31 ranked University of Arizona Wildcats, 6-1, on Saturday (Mar. 24) at the Robson Tennis Center in Tucson, Ariz.

The Ducks (8-5, 0-4 Pac-12) have dropped three straight duals all against conference foes.

The Ducks fell behind early as the Wildcats (12-, 2-1 Pac-12) stole the opening doubles point thanks to a sweep.  Oregon's Trudie du Toit and Julia Metzger fought hard to even the doubles scoring before ultimately falling to Arizona's Sarah Landsman and Hailey Johnson, 8-5.

In singles, Oregon's lone bright spot was Metzger who battled and defeated Arizona's No.1 singles player Lacey Smyth.  Smyth, ranked No. 79 in the country, came into the match against the Ducks having defeated Washington's No. 11 ranked Denise Dy 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 on Friday (Mar. 23).  The win for Smyth was her first over a Top 15 ranked singles player this season.  Metzger showed what has solidified her as Oregon's No. 1 singles player and earned her an 8-5 record (7-4 at No. 1) this year.  The Perrysburg, Ohio native finished off Smyth in straight sets 7-6 (7-3), 6-4.

Oregon next match will be a non-conference neutral site dual in Phoenix, Ariz. against Northern Arizona on Monday (Mar. 26) at 11 a.m. where they will look to break their three-match losing skid.  The match will be Oregon's first neutral site match of the spring.
