Oregon Faces Eastern Washington, Idaho This Weekend
The Oregon Ducks open up their spring season with two dual matches against the Eastern Washington Eagles and Idaho Vandals this weekend at the Oregon Student Tennis Center.  Eastern Washington lost its spring opener, 7-0, to Wyoming last week, while Idaho was blanked by Oregon’s Pac-12 rival, Washington State, 7-0.  Friday's match against Eastern Washington is scheduled for 2 p.m., while Saturday's match versus Idaho is slated for 5 p.m.

Last Weekend at the Freeman Memorial
Oregon participated in the Freeman Memorial last weekend in Las Vegas, Nev.  The invitational consisted of players from seven teams ranked in the top-70 in the country; five of them came into the tournament ranked in the top-10.  The Ducks went 4-4 in singles matches and 2-4 in doubles play.  Sophomore Nicole Long provided the highlight of the weekend by defeating Stanford’s Natalie Dillon in three sets (6-3, 2-6, 7-5) to win the Flight Two singles championship.

Skowronski Knocks Off No. 22 Collins
Another highlight from last weekend was provided by senior Patricia Skowronski, who knocked off Florida’s Danielle Collins (3-6, 7-5, 6-3) in the first round of the Flight One singles tournament.  Collins entered the Freeman Memorial as the tournament’s sixth seed; she was also ranked 22nd nationally.

Oregon Roster Breakdown
The Ducks return seven players from last year’s team that went 12-9.  The program’s 12 victories a season ago were the most since Oregon went 12-12 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2007.  Seniors Julia Metzger and Patricia Skowronski are back for their final season in Eugene.  Metzger won 10 singles matches at the No. 1 slot a year ago and finished 18-17 overall.  Skowronski won 11 singles matches at the No. 2 position and teamed with Sofia Hager, a sophomore in 2013, to go 19-11 in doubles matches.  The 19 doubles wins a season ago rank in a tie for 10th all-time.

Anchoring head coach Paul Reber’s junior class are Rabea Stueckemann, Lana Buttner, Pascale Neubert and Lena Macomson.  Stueckemann and Neubert combined for 15 singles wins last year, while Buttner won seven times as well.  Macomson, a redshirt junior who began her collegiate career at Montana State University-Billings, won two singles matches during the 2012-13 season.

Oregon’s two sophomores include Hager, who won 11 singles matches during the 2012 spring dual season, and Nicole Long, who played at the University of Oklahoma in 2011-12.  Long went 8-13 in singles and 8-12 in doubles as a member of the Sooners.  The Ducks’ lone freshman is Brooke Hughes, a native of Austin, Texas, who graduated from ATA College Prep in the spring of 2012.

Reber Versus This Weekend’s Opponents
Oregon is unbeaten against Eastern Washington and Idaho under head coach Paul Reber, who took over the Duck tennis program before the 2006-07 season.  The Ducks are 3-0 against Eastern Washington and 2-0 against Idaho.
