Oregon Beats UC Davis To Move To 7-0 Overall

EUGENE, Ore. - The Oregon Ducks improved to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the Northwest Region with a convincing 5-2 win over UC Davis on Saturday afternoon at the Oregon Student Tennis Center.

Oregon has won all seven of its matches at home this year and nine-straight in Eugene dating back to last season.

In doubles play, senior Patricia Skowronski and sophomore Nicole Long improved to 6-0 in No. 1 dual doubles matches by defeating UC Davis' Ellie Edles and Tiffany Pham, 8-3.  Senior Julia Metzger and junior Pascale Neubert topped Nicole Koehly and Layla Sanders in the No. 2 match, 8-4, to secure the doubles point for the Ducks and give them a 1-0 lead in the match. The Oregon duo is now 8-5 overall and has won three straight.  Sofia Hager and Lana Buttner were leading the No. 3 match, 7-4, before Oregon took the doubles point and suspended the match.

The Ducks are a combined 14-2 (.875) in dual doubles matches this season.

Metzger won her third consecutive match to kick off singles play and give the Ducks a 2-0 edge overall.  Metzger's 6-1, 6-2 victory in the No. 4 position marked her sixth win over her last 10 matches.  Neubert put Oregon up 3-0 with a 6-4, 6-3 win in the No. 3 match and Skowronski secured the Ducks' victory with a 6-3, 6-3 victory in the No. 1 match over Megan Heneghan.  Skowronski is 7-0 in No. 1 singles matches this year and has won eight out of her last 10 matches.

Long topped Lauren Curry, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 2 singles match.  Her convincing win was her 11th-straight victory and her 14th overall. 

Buttner fell for the first time in dual match play, 6-4, 6-3, in the No. 6 match. 

By winning four out of the six singles matches, the Ducks moved to 35-7 (.833) overall in dual singles play.

With the win, Oregon improves to 7-0 overall for the first time since the 2006 campaign when it also started 7-0.  UC Davis falls to 1-5 with the loss.

The Ducks hit the road for the first time this season next Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 16-17) for matches in Akron, Ohio against Akron (Feb. 16) and East Tennessee State (Feb. 17).  Both matches are slated for 9 a.m. PT.
