WOODLAND, Calif. – Senior Caroline Federighi was named this week’s defensive player of the week as announced by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation office Monday evening, April 7. It is the first player of the week honor for the Oregon captain this year and her second overall, with her first honor coming on April 22 of last year.

Federighi was solid for the Ducks last week, helping Oregon go 2-0 on its road trip to the Bay Area.  The Pleasanton, Calif., native allowed seven goals in 60 minutes of action for UO while stopping six shots, three coming in each half. Her three saves – one point blank – was critical to the Ducks keeping momentum on their side as they went on a 9-3 run in the first half.

The Oregon keeper then held St. Mary’s to just four goals, three days later, as Ducks stayed undefeated in MPSF play and finished the weekend with a 6.66 goals against average.

Federighi also helped herself on the defensive end, scooping up six groundballs (three each game) and caused a pair of turnovers against the Gaels.

The senior allowed just 11 goals in 99:03 minutes of play, lowering her season goals against average to 7.50 in the process. The senior’s 7.50 GAA is tops in the conference and good for 10th in the nation.

Federighi is the second Duck to earn player of the week honors this season. Fellow senior Shannon Propst was named offensive player of the week in the first week of nominations.

Oregon is home this week hosting a pair of games at Papé Field. The Ducks first take on No. 12 Stanford at 5:06 p.m. (PT) on Friday, April 13, live on the Pac-12 Networks. UO then entertains UC Davis at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, to wrap up its two-game homestand.
