Jody Sykes, who helped supervise all aspects of the office of compliance at the University of Louisville for the past seven years, has been named senior associate athletic director/chief compliance officer at the University of Oregon, according to the Ducks’ Athletics Director Rob Mullens Saturday.

The appointment is effective July 29 pending completion of the University’s paperwork from the office of human resources.

Sykes’ role will include serving as a liaison between the Ducks’ athletics department and the NCAA and Pac-12 Conference regarding rules interpretations, education and monitoring of daily activities in coordination with the University’s faculty representative. She also will work with the academic support services for student-athletes.

“We are excited to welcome Jody to Oregon and our leadership team,” Mullens said. “She brings a breadth of experience at outstanding institutions and has had meaningful engagement at both the conference and national levels.  During the search process, it became very evident that Jody is widely respected in college athletics for her knowledge, integrity and commitment to the broad-based excellence of student-athletes.”

The Rifle, Colo., native has accumulated 13 years of experience in the areas of compliance and student services, serving as Louisville’s associate athletic director for compliance since April 2010 and assistant athletic director for compliance from January 2006 through March 2010.

Sykes’ duties’ at Louisville included involvement in all aspects of its NCAA and Big East Conference athletics department’s compliance, helping with the daily functions of the Cardinals’ Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, assisting the director for student development and championships with life skills activities, programming and career development and serving as discipline coordinator for issues involving the University of Louisville’s dean of students office and University housing.

Prior to her tenure at Louisville, Sykes worked at the University of Pittsburgh as the director of compliance from October 2003 to January 2006, and at Robert Morris (Pa.) University as the director of compliance and student services from June 2001 to September 2003.

Graduating cum laude from the University of Montana in 1998 with a bachelor’s in business administration, Sykes was a four-year letter winner for the Grizzlies’ women’s golf team and a three-time all-Big Sky Conference academic award honoree. She earned her master’s in sports management from the University of Arkansas in 2001 while working as a compliance assistant in the Razorbacks’ men’s athletics department (July 2000-May 2001) and assistant women’s golf coach (Aug. 1999-June 2000).

Sykes has served on the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Committee since September 2012, the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators since 1998 and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and National Association for Athletics Compliance since October 2003.
