ORLANDO, Fla. – The Ducks’ sensational parody of Psy’s “Gangnam Style” video was one of three unique University of Oregon promotional pieces recently honored by the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA).
The video, featuring the Oregon Duck mascot, has generated nearly 7 million views on YouTube and was honored with NACMA’s silver award in the category of Video Board Segment.
Oregon also earned a gold award for its 2013 baseball poster in the Promotional/Schedule Poster category and another silver under Season Ticket Sales Campaign for men’s basketball’s “United We Ball” campaign.
“It is always an honor to be recognized at a national level amongst our peers given the tremendous talent in our field,” said Megan Robertson, Oregon’s Director of Promotions & Gameday Experience. “We have developed a standard of excellence and innovation as a department and will continue to push the envelope of creativity to advance the collegiate athletic marketing community as a whole.”
Initiated in 2003, the NACMA Best of Awards program honors outstanding achievement in marketing and promotions. Awards are presented in 13 categories, with each category divided into three groups based upon school size and conference affiliations to promote fairness. An association record of more than 1,000 awards entries were received for the 2012-13 year.
Oregon was one of three FBS institutions to win three awards for 2013, joining Akron and Florida.
Over the past two years, Oregon leads all FBS schools with seven awards and has garnered 20 honors in the 10 year history of the program, which is tied for third overall.
“We place great importance on evolving the art for the sake of the art itself,” said UO Creative Services Director Katie Urhausen, “Although we don’t do it for the accolades or awards, those are always appreciated.”
