EUGENE – In anticipation of the University of Oregon’s opening of Matthew Knight Arena Thursday night with the Ducks’ men’s basketball game with USC, the athletics department has unveiled parking suggestions and guidelines with the hopes of contributing to the excitement that will be witnessed by a record-setting crowd.
Tipoff for the contest is 8 p.m., with opening-night ceremonies expected to commence at about 7:40 p.m.
Doors will open to the general public at 5:30 p.m. for Thursday night’s game, as well as 12:30 p.m. for Satur-day’s 2 p.m. start vs. UCLA.
The University has worked in conjunction with the Fairmount Neighbors Association to coordinate the traffic flow and Matt Arena parking in order to minimize the impact on the surrounding neighborhood. Fans attending the game are encouraged to arrive early to maximize the fan experience and enjoyed the many amenities the new arena has to offer.
Sports Shuttles will be provided to all men’s basketball games, as well as other large arena events, with three Park-and-Ride locations providing roundtrip service from Autzen Stadium, South Eugene High School (19th and Patterson) and the Springfield LTD Station. The shuttles will normally begin service 90 minutes prior to tipoff, however they will commence operation at 5 p.m. Thursday. The roundtrip fare is $3 per person, with exact change required.
Arena District Parking
Arena-area street parking will be allowed for men’s basketball games only with the advance purchase of an Arena District parking pass from the Oregon Athletic Ticket Office. The cost for the Ducks’ remaining seven home games is $70. The pass will allow for street parking in an area bounded by East 15th Ave. on the north, and Fairmount Blvd. on the east and south; the western boundary will border Villard Street between East 15th and East 19th Ave., and extend to Columbia Street from East 19th Ave. south to Fairmount Blvd. Parking within this boundary will not be allowed for any other arena events.
Parking will be available in a number of University lots beginning 90 minutes before tipoff for $10 per game. Lots located on the west end of campus will offer free shuttle service to and from the arena. Maps that detail the available University parking lots may be found by clicking on the parking and transportation link at www.matthewknightarena.com.
There also are a number of City of Eugene metered parking spaces along the streets surrounding the University that will be available, with the meters to be enforced daily until 8 p.m.
Parking for fans accompanied with the proper disabled parking placards is located west of the arena on Co-lumbia Street, and is accessible from East 13th Ave. Cost for the parking is $10, with the 50 spaces available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Valet bicycle parking for men’s basketball games and other large arena events will be available on the east and west ends of the arena for $1, with approximately 350 spaces available.
Parking in lots on the property of area business that are not offering event-day parking are to be specifically avoided.
