The Northwest Ford Dealers, in conjunction with Beaver Sports Properties and the Oregon IMG Sports Marketing, has reached an agreement with Oregon State University and the University of Oregon to join PacificSource Health Plans as the presenting partners for the schools’ Civil War series, according to a joint announcement by directors of athletics Bob De Carolis and Rob Mullens Thursday.
Forty-one dealers in the state of Oregon make up the Northwest Ford Dealers group.
“Ford is proud to support the Civil War Series,” Michael Doherty, Chairman of the Northwest Ford Dealers Advertising Association said. “We look forward to seeing both the Ducks’ and Beavers’ fans this year at Autzen Stadium and at all the Civil War competitions.”
The marketing partnership is intended to increase the regional exposure for the intrastate rivalry, which originated with the first football game between the two institutions in 1894, as well as generate additional revenue for the two athletic departments.
PacificSource is in its second year as a partner and provides all Oregonians resources to better manage their health, and provide a platform to compete as individuals or teams in activities that promote exercise, healthy nutrition and tobacco cessation. Through the initiative, PacificSource provides funding to both universities’ campus wellness programs to assist the schools in meeting their health improvement goals.
The Civil War series has been ultra competitive since the original format was adopted prior to the 1999-2000 school year.
The series tracks head-to-head competition between the two schools in 10 sports, with the school accumulating the highest point total declared that year’s winner. Oregon has won six of the 12 competitions; OSU has three victories and there have been three ties.
There are a total of 17 points in this year’s series that begins Nov. 4 with a women’s soccer match in Corvallis. The breakdown for points is as follows: football (3 points), men’s basketball (2), women’s basketball (2), volleyball (2), baseball (2), softball (2), women’s soccer (1), cross country (1), men’s golf (1) and women’s golf (1).
