JUST THE FACTS: OREGON MARCHING BAND

This edition of "Just the Facts" corrects inaccuracies in a recent letter published in the Daily Emerald regarding band funding.

The Oregon Marching Band is a 2-credit class called MUS 395: Top Marching Band. Students enrolled pay a fee(s) for the class. This fee does not go to the athletic department.
There is no official reporting line of the Oregon Marching Bands to the Athletic Department. Oregon Athletic Band staff reports to the School of Music.
The athletic department currently funds the band at $250,000 per year, which does not include bowl travel expenses.
Other than a few emails sent to athletic department staff in late November, we have not had an in-depth discussion with the ASUO regarding their proposal to eliminate their portion of band funding.
