Les Steers
Position: Hall of Fame Inductee
Other Position: 1992 Inductee, Track

Oregon’s performance in the 1941 track and field season is remembered as something of a one-man show and Steers was that man. In a meet against Washington, he won the javelin, tied for first in the high hurdles and placed third in the shot put. They were merely preludes, however, to his main event, the high jump.

He cleared 6 feet 11 inches for a world record, a mark that would stand for 12 years. In 1977, he was inducted into the United States Track and Field Hall of Fame. He was a three-time AAU champion, won the 1941 NCAA title and earned a pair of all-America plaques.
