Oregon Hall of Fame Coaching Staff
Lynne Winbigler (Anderson)
Hall of Fame Inductee
|Position:||Hall of Fame Inductee|
|Other Position:||1992 Inductee, Track & Field|
She won the 1976 U.S. Olympic Trials in the discus, making her Oregon’s first female Olympian and launching her on a
four-year reign as the top woman discus thrower in the United States. She learned she could train as hard as any man and did. The 1980 Olympics, long a goal, was dashed by the U.S. boycott.
After that, she retired to begin coaching and teaching. Now married and coaching throwers at the University of Minnesota, Winbigler’s legacy is established. She finished at Oregon in 1975 with third in the AIAW national meet, then went on to
win three TAC titles and earn the American record in 1977. Oregon’s most pretigious woman’s track award is named in her honor.
