On opening night of the Civil War series this past weekend, Oregon starting pitcher Tyler Anderson had one of his best performances of the season. Setting the tone for the series on Friday night, the junior left-hander held the Beavers to one run in seven and 1/3 innings.
Anderson left the game in the eighth to a standing ovation of 3,052 fans at PK Park, allowing only 4 hits and fanning 10. Anderson’s 10 strikeouts brought his total to 114 on the season and set an Oregon single-season record, eclipsing his own mark from 2010.
Anderson’s stellar 2011 season has not gone unnoticed. The junior starting pitcher has been nominated for the Golden Spikes Award, which honors the top amateur baseball players in the country.
