Postgame Quotes

Head Coach Dana Altman
On the game...
“It was really a game of two halves. They really took it to us the first half. They outrebounded us, out fought us, they won almost every stat. Second half was a lot different. Our guys’ energy was a lot better. We were a step slow the first half, I don’t know the reason for that, but we weren’t ready to play.”

“We weren’t sharp the whole first half. We didn’t hit our three throws the first half. There were so many things in those ten turnovers that showed me we weren’t sharp or intense, and that’s got to improve.”

On what they discussed during halftime

“We told them we were upset and disappointed. We’ve got a group of four seniors, if they want to do something special, they’ve got to get their team ready. If we’re going to make progress in the last six weeks, it’s got to be because of those four seniors. We talked about the stats we were down on, especially the turnovers.”

On the fan support...
“I have a little card that I write “CYT” Coach your team. That’s my job. The guy’s job is to play. If the fans like our team, they like it. We hope people will get on board, but worry about what you can control. I just appreciate the people who do come.”

Oregon Senior Forward E.J. Singler
On the change from the first to the second half of the game...
“We knew that we were not playing up to our best abilities and it definitely got to us at the half. We knew that we had to play harder and that we could do better.”

“I am happy that we came back but that being said, we can’t be trailing in the first half like that. In games and specifically in the PAC-12 you never know what is going to happen. We were not strong defensively in the first half but all that matters in the end is that we came back and left the game with a win.”

On being in the position that they are...
“This is the first time that we have been in this position. This is the first time that we are the hunted instead of the hunters.”

Oregon Senior Forward Arsalan Kazemi

On their defensive energy...
“We did not have the energy on our defensive end, and we knew that we had to stop playing that way. We had to change that and I think we did that coming into the second half.”

“What made the difference from the first to second half was our defensive energy, that’s what did it. During halftime the coaches came after us and said that we would not win the game if we kept playing how we were playing so we had to change it up and step it up.”

On approaching future games...
“We have to start playing strong from the start of the game to the end; it is 40 minutes where we need to be pushing hard the entire time. We have to do this because we will not always be able to get away with the way we played in the first half.
