PERSONAL — Born Nicholas Matthew Reed on Sept. 1, 1987 in Oakland, Calif. Parents: Pat McLoughlin and Kathy Reed, Bill Reed and Theresa Reed. Family: Two sisters. High School (Coach): Trabuco Canyon (Bob Johnson) 2005. Graduated (Degree): 2008 (History).

2008 — Expanded on the All-America pace he established for himself as a junior, positioning himself to be considered among the top defensive linemen in school history -- both on and off the field ... Became only the second football player at Oregon to ever earn first-team All-America honors on the field (Walter Camp Foundation) and in the classroom (ESPN the Magazine), joining Steve Barnett (offensive lineman) from 1962 ... The two-time first-team Academic All-American and Draddy Award semifinalist led the country in fumble recoveries (5), ranked fourth (tie) nationally (1st in the Pac-10) in quarterback sacks (13.0), and tied for ninth in tackles for loss (20.0) ...  The team’s ninth-leading tackler not only was awarded the Morris Trophy as the Pac-10’s top defensive lineman, he was voted by his teammates as the Ducks’ Most Outstanding Player ... Posting quarterback sacks in nine of his last 12 appearances, the two-time first-team all-conference pick equaled the school’s single-game record for quarterback sacks and surpassed the career pinnacle (29.5) ... His 20.0 TFLs tied for the fourth most in a single season (3.0 shy of the school record) and he finished his career second on the all-time list with 51.5 (1.5 short of the career leader) ... Posted a season-best nine tackles vs. Washington, as well as a single-game high three tackles for loss and three quarterback sacks at Oregon State ... One of eight semifinalists for the Lott Trophy (nation’s defensive impact player of the year) and one of six finalists for the Ted Hendricks Award (college football’s top defensive end) ... Recovered a trio of fumbles at California ... Epitomized as a player with a constant motor who refused to be outworked by the opposition and exhibited a great passion for the game.

2007 — The second-team All-American (SI.com) and finalist for the Ted Hendricks Award exploded on the scene and was a major reason Oregon led the country in tackles for loss ... The Pacific-10 Conference first-team choice and Walter Camp Football Foundation national player of the week (vs. Washington State) led the Ducks’ down linemen in tackles (60) in addition to pacing the league in tackles for loss (3rd nationally) and quarterback sacks ... Tallied a career-high 11 tackles in games vs. both Washington State and Arizona State, which included five stops for lost yardage and 3.5 QB takedowns in each instance ... Accorded team’s outstanding defensive lineman award (Joe Schaffeld Award) ... Witnessed his string of 10 straight games with at least one tackle for loss come to an end vs. USC in the eighth game of the season ... Finished third on the single-season tackles for loss list and fourth on the season sacks ledger ... Has transferred his proficiency on the field into the classroom as one of only four Pac-10 players to receive first-team academic and athletic plaudits ... Also was named to ESPN the Magazine’s Academic All-America first team with a 3.39 GPA.

2006 — Took advantage of injuries along the defensive line to move into the starting lineup for Oregon’s final 10 games, accumulating 26 of his tackles during that span ... Team’s second-leading tackler among down linemen (ninth overall) posted a career-high five stops in the regular-season finale at Oregon State in addition to contributing four in the Las Vegas Bowl ... Scored tackles for loss vs. Stanford, UCLA, Portland State, Arizona, Oregon State and BYU, which included QB sacks against the Cardinal, Vikings and Cougars ... Also blocked a PAT at Washington State in addition to receiving team’s top weekly defensive accolades following his final two regular season games of the year ... Named to Pac-10’s second-team academic all-conference unit.

2005 — Experienced playing time in all 12 games, led by 25 snaps at Arizona ... Finished the year with all five of his tackles unassisted, including two stops vs. Montana as well as solo tackles in each of his last two games of the regular season ... In addition, posted a quarterback sack at Stanford as well as tackles for loss vs. Montana and Oregon State ... Also blocked a punt at Arizona that led to an Oregon score.

HIGH SCHOOL — Credited with 65 tackles, 10 quarterback sacks (third in the league) and two fumble recoveries as a senior to earn all-Orange County Region by the L.A. Times and defensive player of the year accolades by the Orange County Register ... Also honored as first-team all-CIF Southern Section, CIF Southern Section Division II co-defensive player of the year, South Coast League defensive MVP and received votes on the Long Beach Press-Telegram Best in the West balloting.
