TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona beat Oregon at its own game by the score of 119-112 on Saturday, as the two teams combined to play the highest scoring game in women's Pac-10 history. The teams combined to score 231 points at the McKale Center, besting the previous record of 221 set by Cal (115) vs. USC (106) on March 10, 1989. Oregon is now 12-5 on the season and 3-2 in the Pac-10, while Arizona improves to 9-7 overall and 3-3 in league play. Arizona's 119 points was a school record in a Pac-10 game, while it was also the most points Oregon has ever allowed. The Ducks' previous record was surrendering 107 points at Stanford on Feb. 25, 1989. Arizona continuously beat Oregon on the press, shooting 62.3 percent (43-of-69) from the floor, with three players reaching career highs led by freshman Davellyn White's game-high 39 points. Junior forward Ify Ibekwe picked up a double-double with 32 points and game highs with 14 rebounds and seven assists. Soana Lucet added 28 points. Foul trouble again plagued Oregon, as the Ducks committed 26 fouls. The Wildcats converted 25-of-35 opportunities from the free-throw line. Junior forward Nicole Canepa, making her first start of the season, doubled her previous career high scoring 38 points shooting 14-of-18 from the floor and 10-of-12 from the free-throw line. Canepa's 38-point performance ties with Bev Smith and Debbie Adams for the most points scored in a single UO game, and is the most points any Oregon player has scored against a Pac-10 opponent. Junior sharp shooter Kristi Fallin also had a career day scoring 18 points and knocking down four three-pointers to keep the Ducks in the game. Junior forward Amanda Johnson earned her seventh double-double of the season with 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Taylor Lilley chipped in 14 points. Sophomore guard Nia Jackson added 14 points. Oregon closed the score to within 107-102 with 1:27 to go, but Arizona broke the press and Whyte took advantage with a teardrop in the lane despite being fouled by Canepa. Whyte converted the three-point play to give the Wildcats an eight-point lead again. Arizona opened the second half with an onslaught of scoring, putting up 14 points in the first four-plus minutes and extending its lead to double-digits, 70-60, with 15:25 left to play. The Wildcats maintained that double-digit for the majority of the second half. The Ducks used a 10-4 run late in the game, to bring the score within five points, but Whyte's three-point play at 2:02 to proved to be the final dagger. Oregon trailed by as many as 15 in the game, but ended the half on a 14-3 run over the final four minutes that brought the Ducks within 56-52 at the break. The Ducks trailed 53-38 with 4:09 remaining in the first half, but Fallin contributed eight points during the Ducks 14-3 run, including knocking down two three-pointers to help UO climb out of a steep hole. Canepa scored a career-high 21 points by halftime, shooting 7-of-10 from the floor and a flawless 7-of-7 from the charity stripe. Arizona shot 64.5 percent (20-of-31) from the floor in the first half, and used a 14-6 run to take a slight 21-19 advantage to double-digits, 35-25, with 8:42 on the clock. Arizona also shot 5-of-10 from three-point range to build its lead, and Oregon committed eight fouls by the 12:04 mark sending Arizona into bonus and to the free-throw line early in the half. The Wildcats were 11-of-20 from the stripe by halftime, while the Ducks were 8-of-9. Three Arizona players were in double figures led by Ibekwe's 19 points and seven rebounds. Whyte added 14 points and Lucet scored 11. Oregon went to its bench early inserting, Ironmonger, Fallin and Saffold as Canepa and Holliday each picked up three fouls in the first half. Oregon was without junior forward Victoria Kenyon following her ejection from Thursday's game at Arizona State. Kenyon was charged with a flagrant foul against the Wildcats and was ejected from the game with 6:01 remaining. NOTES UP
