EUGENE, Ore. - Utah’s Morgan Warburton scored all of her game-high 19 points in the second half, and erased any hope of an Oregon comeback as the Ducks fell 63-49 on Sunday afternoon at Mac Court.

The loss drops Oregon to 3-7 on the season, while Utah improves to 5-6.

The Ducks have now lost five in a row, and seven of their last eight.

Oregon trailed Utah by 11 at the break, but responded in the second half and had the game even at 47-47 with 6:27 to go after back-to-back three-pointers from freshman Amanda Johnson.

But Warburton, the Preseason Mountain West Conference Player of the Year, had an answer. From that point on, Utah went on a 16-2 run with 11 of those points coming from Warburton. She scored a game-high 19 all-coming in the second half, including 14 of the Utes last 20.

With Warburton held scoreless in the first half, Kalee Whipple led Utah with 14 first-half points, and ended the game with 15. Her 15 on Sunday launched her career total to 1,003 - becoming the 21st player in Utah history to reach the 1,000 point mark.

Oregon erased what was an 11-point halftime deficit, led by freshman Jasmin Holliday. By the 11:48 mark of the second half, Holliday had six points, three rebounds, two steals and one assist in the opening minutes.

In fact Holliday scored the two Oregon field goals that tied the game at 37-37 with 12:33 to go. Ellie Manou then gave the Ducks their first lead, 39-37, since the first half (17:34), with an inside bucket (10:46).

Holliday ended the game with team-high tying and new career-best 10 points. She also added six rebounds, three assists and a career and game-leading six steals.

The Ducks emerged from the locker room and started the second half on a blazing 12-5 run. Oregon came within 35-31 at the 16:19 mark, forcing Utah to call a timeout and regroup. Each Oregon second half starter (Cocks, Lilley, Kenyon, Holliday and Canepa) had a bucket during the Ducks’ opening run.

Oregon junior guard Taylor Lilley also finished in double figures with 10 points. For just the second time this season, Oregon junior guard Micaela Cocks was held to single digits (8). Utah’s defensive pressure in the frontcourt led to a combined 6-of-23 performance from Cocks and Lilley.

Oregon trailed 30-19 at the half, despite starting the game with a 5-0 advantage, with baskets from Cocks and Victoria Kenyon (her first three-pointer of the season.)

The Ducks had just 10 rebounds in the first half, outrebounded by the Utes 22-10. In fact, Utah’s Halie Sawyer set a new career-high in the first half with 12 rebounds, including 10 by the first half’s 9:00 mark. She ended the game with 14, as Oregon was outrebounded 40-26.

Each team had 13 turnovers in the first half, but the Utes were able to capitalize, scoring 10 points of Oregon’s miscues.

Oregon will open its Pac-10 season on the road next week, traveling to southern California. The Ducks match up with USC at 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 2, before heading to Pauley Pavilion to play UCLA at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 4.

Notes:
Sunday’s game was the seventh straight for Oregon against an opponent that reached the 2008 postseason; South Dakota State (WNIT), Wyoming (NCAA), Montana (NCAA), Georgia Tech (NCAA), Marquette (WNIT champion), Baylor (NCAA), Utah (NCAA)....the Ducks are 1-6 in those games...Oregon’s 3-7 non-conference record marks the first time since 2002-03 (4-5) the Ducks have headed into the Pac-10 schedule with a losing record.
