EUGENE, Ore.
– In its final preparation before the start of the regular season, the Oregon
women’s basketball team showed off its offensive prowess with a 101-55 victory
over Western Oregon on Monday night at Mac
Court.
The win marked the Ducks second victory in the exhibition
season, and the first time in nearly three years the team hit the triple-digit
mark, last scoring 100-plus points in an 102-36 victory over Prairie View A&M
on Dec. 10, 2005.
Starting point guard Micaela Cocks led Oregon
with 24 points on 8-of-12 shooting as five Ducks reached double figures Monday night.
Shooting guard Taylor Lilley got her first action of the
season and added 16 points, eight assists, five rebounds and four steals.
Sophomore forward Ellie Manou added 13 points and seven rebounds in 15 minutes
on the floor, while Ellyce Ironmonger led the bench with 12 points.
Freshman Amanda Johnson again hit the double-digit mark with
10 points, including two three-pointers.
The Ducks outscored the Wolves 53-22 in the second half,
shooting 51.4 percent in the final 20 minutes.
The Ducks also scored 30 points off Western Oregon’s
30 turnovers in the game, and totaled 24 assists on 37 field goals made.
Shayla Corder and Katie Torland led the Wolves with 11 and 10, respectively.
Cocks led Oregon
in the first half with 10 points, while Johnson, Manou and Lilley each added
eight as the Ducks went into the locker room with a 48-33 lead.
The Ducks led the entire game and by the 14:39 mark of the first half had a
double-digit lead, 21-11.
Western Oregon came back within four,
23-19, with 10 minutes remaining in the first until back-to-back buckets from Darriel
Gaynor and Johnson - with both dishes coming from Lilley -extended the Ducks lead to
28-19.
Oregon ended the first period on a 10-2 run, with Lilley
scoring four of those points and adding an assist.
Manou worked hard in the first half scoring six of the
Ducks’ first eight points but exited the contest after picking up two quick
fouls.
Oregon begins
the 2008-09 regular season at 7 p.m., Saturday at San Jose State. Fans in the Eugene
area can listen to the game on KSCR 1320 AM, while fans out of the listening
area can pick up the broadcast on the O-Zone.
Notes: Oregon sophomore post Nicole Canepa did not play in
the game due to an ankle sprain...she will be evaluated day-to-day...Lindsey
Saffold, who missed the first exhibition game with a toe sprain, made her debut
for Oregon against the Wolves...the Ducks also debuted their new yellow jerseys
in the game...2,348 were in attendance.
