Release: 01/16/2009

Former Oregon decathlete Gabriel LeMay returns to his alma mater to assist coaching Oregon’s heptathletes and decathletes, as well as the Ducks’ high jumpers.

Prior to his return to Oregon, LeMay was a graduate assistant at Western Illinois where he had the responsibility for developing decathletes, heptathletes and pole vaulters. He coached two NCAA Regional qualifiers in the pole vault, as well as two school record holders in the event.  In his two years at WIU, LeMay coached four conference champions in his event areas. He earned his Master’s degree in kinesiology from Western Illinois in 2006.

LeMay also coached for two years at Kent State, where he mentored pole vaulters and decathletes. He produced two school record holders, (pole vault and men’s indoor heptathlon), four conference champions, two NCAA Regional qualifiers, one Regional Champion (men’s pole vault) and an All-American in the decathlon.

After transferring from Lane Community College where he was a two-time junior college All-American in the decathlon, LeMay was a NCAA Championships decathlon qualifier in 2004, where he finished 11th with a personal-best of 7,517 points. His heptathlon best of 5,443, which came during the 2004 indoor season, still ranks fifth all-time at Oregon. He placed sixth in the indoor heptathlon at the 2008 USATF national meet.

The Yoncolla, Ore., native is a 2004 graduate of the University with a bachelor’s of science focusing on human biology.
