BOISE, Idaho-- The Ducks men's tennis team wrapped up their weekend of competition at the Boise State Fall Classic on Sunday.
“Overall, we were hoping to get better results in this
tournament," said associate head coach Jonas Piibor. "However, I think our captain Aaron Clissold battled really hard and
showed great resiliency. He fought extremely hard and made it to the final
where he lost to a great player. The newcomers can really learn from Aaron as
far as how to work and how to fight.”
Senior Aaron Clissold was the only Oregon player to compete on Sunday as he advanced all the way to finals of the singles bracket. First, he defeated Portland's Paxton Deuel 6-4, 7-5, advancing him into the finals. His opponent in the finals was top-seeded Ratan Gill from the University of Portland. After a tough match, Gill came out on top 7-5, 6-2 and Clissold finished second in the singles bracket.
“We’re going to go back to work next week and improve in the
areas we need to improve and train really hard for our regional tournament
coming up in a few weeks," added Piibor.
The Ducks return to action in two weeks at the ITA Regionals in Moraga, Calif.
