LAS VEGAS – The Oregon men's tennis team endured an up-and-down day on the first day of the Easley Memorial Classic on Friday, going 5-3 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles.

How It Happened: With four Ducks competing in the event, the doubles play was the highlight of the day with a 2-0 performance. Simon Stevens and Akihiro Tanaka came away with an 8-2 win over Felix Schumann and Adi Zilberstein (Northern Arizona), and Ethan Young-Smith and Ty Gentry won their first match, 8-5, over Alexandr Cozbinov and Ruben Alberts (UNLV).

Stevens and Tanaka will face Portland's Michail Pervolarakis and Pierre Garcia at 9 a.m. on Saturday in the second round, while Gentry and Young-Smith will take on UCLA's Joseph Di Guilio and Austin Rapp.

In singles play, Stevens is the Duck remaining in the main draw brackets after picking up a pair of wins in singles flight 1. The junior defeated Lucas Taylor (NAU), 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, in the first round before taking down Rapp (UCLA), 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, to advance to Saturday's semifinals where he'll face Mathieu Garcia (Portland) at 10 a.m.

Tanaka lost in the first round of singles flight 1 before winning, 6-3, 7-5, in the first round of the consolation round. Young-Smith (6-0, 6-0) and Gentry (7-6 (10), 6-2) both won their first round matches before falling in the quarterfinals.
