EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon volleyball got its first game action of the preseason on Saturday night at Matthew Knight Arena, as both steady returners and exciting freshmen shined in the annual Green/Yellow scrimmage.
Â
How It Happened: The Green team came out on top, 25-23, 19-25, 25-20, 25-23, led by a trio of freshmen in Willow Johnson, Ronika Stone and Jolie Rasmussen. Johnson excited fans with her powerful left-handed swing, finishing the match with a team-high 16 kills (.231), including eight in Green's set one win. Stone and Rasmussen each finished with 11 kills, with Rasmussen adding two service aces and three blocks and Stone tallying four blocks while hitting .364. Junior setter Maggie Scott recorded 39 assists for the Green team, senior middle blocker Kacey Nady added nine kills and four blocks, and senior libero Amanda Benson finished with a game-high 23 digs.
Â
For the Yellow team, junior hitter Taylor Agost led all players with 19 kills and 21.5 points while hitting .255. Sophomore Lindsey Vander Weide, an All-Pac-12 selection as a freshman in 2015, added 11 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore setter August Raskie paced the Yellow team with 44 assists while adding a service ace, and sophomore middle blocker Lauren Page led all players with six blocks. Â
Second Look: Oregon got its first game action with the new video replay system that will be utilized at Matthew Knight Arena this season, with multiple plays being challenged by head coach Jim Moore and his staff … Oregon is one of just two teams in the Pac-12 (Colorado) to use the new system this season.
Â
Up Next: The Ducks will continue tuning up for the regular season next Saturday at Matthew Knight Arena in their annual Alumni Challenge. Oregon will then open its season on August 26 against Texas in the Vert Challenge at MKA.
