NCAA and Pac-12 Player of the Week Honors for Brooks
01/02/17 | Men's Basketball
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Naismith and Wooden Award National Player of the Year candidate Dillon Brooks earned his second career Pac-12 Player of the Week award following his performances against UCLA and USC last week, in voting conducted by media who cover the league. He previously won the award on Feb. 1, 2016.
Brooks was also selected as the national player of the week by NCAA.com.
The 6-7 junior forward from Mississauga, Ontario, averaged 25.5 points on 60 percent shooting (18-of-30), 6.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game as Oregon opened Pac-12 play with home victories over previously unbeaten and nationally ranked teams UCLA and USC. The Ducks became the first team to defeat unbeaten and ranked conference opponents in back-to-back games since Kentucky in 2004.
Brooks' standout play helped extend the Ducks' overall winning streak to 11 straight games, tied as the fifth-longest in the nation, and NCAA Division I's second-longest active home court winning streak to 35 consecutive games.
Brooks' breakout week began with a then season-high 23 points, including the game-winning three-pointer with 0.8 seconds left to knock off No. 2 UCLA, 89-87, on Wednesday. The momentum carried over to Friday's 84-61 win over No. 22 USC as Brooks scored a season-best 28 points in just 24 minutes on 9-of-10 field goals, including a perfect 4-of-4 behind the arc.
Following a slow start to the season, including missing the first three games due to off-season foot surgery, Brooks currently ranks 14th in the Pac-12 in scoring at 14.8 points per game.
