Oregon earns highest AP poll ranking since 2000-01 season
EUGENE, Ore. - A week after earning the No. 11 ranking in the preseason coaches poll, the Ducks were slotted No. 11 once again in the preseason Associated Press top-25 poll, the organization announced on Thursday.
The No. 11 ranking in the preseason poll is the highest in program history. The previous best was No. 13 to start the 1980-81 campaign.
Oregon's No. 11 ranking is the highest overall for the Ducks in the AP poll since being No. 10 on Dec. 4, 2000. Oregon has reached the top-10 on four occasions in program history, all at No. 9, during the 1981-82 season. Last season, the Ducks entered the AP top-25 poll for the first time since the 2003-04 season.
The Ducks are scheduled to play five teams currently in the preseason poll. In non-conference action, Oregon will meet No. 22 Oklahoma in Eugene and No. 7 Mississippi State on the road. In Pac-12 play, the Ducks will battle No. 8 UCLA, No. 10 Stanford, No. 19 Oregon State and No. 20 California. Oregon could potentially play No. 9 Louisville and No. 24 Michigan as part of the preseason WNIT.
Unanimous No. 1 UConn will be in Eugene on Nov. 25 to play Michigan State as part of the Ducks' PK80 doubleheader.
Oregon meets Westmont on Sunday at 2 PM for an exhibition game before opening up the season against Cal State Northridge on Nov. 10 at 5 PM as part of the preseason WNIT.
