EUGENE, Ore. - Sophomores Ruthy Hebard and Sabrina Ionescu have each been named to the Naismith Trophy watch list, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Wednesday.
The list features 50 players to watch for the Naismith Trophy, which is awarded to the top player in both men's and women's college basketball at the end of the season. A midseason top-30 list will be announced on Feb. 12, 2018.
Hebard and Ionescu are two of just five sophomores on the watch list.
Hebard has two double-doubles this season and 13 in her career. The Fairbanks, Alaska, native is shooting a team-high 65.5 percent on field goals while averaging 16.0 points and a team-best 9.5 rebounds per game. Hebard went a perfect 10-for-10 from the floor for 24 points in Oregon's win at No. 19 Texas A&M on Nov. 16.
Ionescu leads the Ducks with 16.7 points and 7.0 assists per game. The sophomore already has six career triple-doubles, including two this season, which is tied for the Pac-12 record and one shy of the NCAA record. In Saturday's win over Oklahoma, Ionescu posted 28 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Her most recent triple-double was at No. 19 Texas A&M with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists.
