
Herbert, Throckmorton named first-team Pac-12 All-Academic

EUGENE, Ore. -- Oregon sophomores Justin Herbert and Calvin Throckmorton were named to the Pac-12 Conference All-Academic First Team Thursday, while 12 other Ducks' earned honorable mention recognition.
Herbert, a quarterback from Eugene, has a 4.08 grade-point average in biology. Throckmorton, an offensive lineman from Bellevue, Wash., has a 3.76 grade-point average in human physiology.
A seven-game starter as a true freshman last season, Herbert got the Ducks off to a 4-1 start this fall before being sidelined by a collar bone injury. He returned for the Arizona game and led the Ducks to wins in their final two games. Herbert finished the regular season completing 113-of-170 passes (66.5 percent) for 1,750 yards, with 13 touchdowns and three interceptions.
Throckmorton, who claimed his second first-team Pac-12 All-Academic honor, has started all 24 games during his career, the first 22 at right tackle and the last two at right guard. In addition to being a first-team all-academic selection as a redshirt freshman in 2016, he was also named an honorable mention All-Pac-12 Conference pick. This season, he was named to the Pro Football Focus Pac-12 team of the week for his efforts in Oregon's game at Stanford.
Throckmorton and the rest of the UO offensive line have paved the way for the Ducks to rush for 268 yards per game, second-most in the Pac-12. The Ducks have allowed 21 sacks, ranking fifth in the conference.
In addition to Herbert and Throckmorton, the following 12 Ducks were named to the conference's honorable mention all-academic team: Senior quarterback Taylor Alie, junior inside linebacker Kaulana Apelu, sophomore defensive lineman Gary Baker, redshirt freshman safety Brady Breeze, sophomore tight end Jacob Breeland, senior offensive lineman Doug Brenner, redshirt freshman offensive lineman Jacob Capra, sophomore defensive lineman Drayton Carlberg, sophomore center Jake Hanson, sophomore offensive guard Shane Lemieux, sophomore wide receiver Malik Lovette and redshirt freshman tight end Cam McCormick.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average and appear in at least 50 percent of their team's games.
