Softball Opens Utah Series with Run-Rule Win

The undefeated Ducks scored 12 runs on 12 hits in a five-inning victory over No. 11 Utah.
SALT LAKE CITY – The No. 3 Oregon softball team continued its incredible start to the season with a 12-3 run-rule win over No. 11 Utah on Sunday in the first game of a doubleheader.
The undefeated Ducks improved to 28-0 and 4-0 in league play. The second game of the doubleheader will be at 5 PM PT on Pac-12 Network.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Oregon struck first with a two-run second inning. Mia Camuso and Jenna Lilley each doubled in runs for the Ducks.
Oregon added four more runs in the third inning. Alexis Mack started the inning with a single and, with one out, moved to third on a single by Gwen Svekis. Nikki Udria then singled in Mack to make it a 3-0 lead. After a flyout, Shannon Rhodes singled and a run scored after the ball was misplayed in the outfield for an error. Two more runs scored on errors in the inning and the Ducks took a 6-0 lead into the bottom of the third. Utah picked up two runs in the third, one on a RBI single and the other on an error.
With a 6-2 lead going to the fourth, the Ducks poured on another three runs. The Ducks loaded the bases after Mack singled, Danica Mercado reached on a fielding error and Svekis walked. Udria and Camuso followed with back-to-back RBI singles to give the Ducks an 8-2 lead. Lilley drew a bases loaded walk for another run.
Oregon scored three runs in the fifth to put a run-rule win into play. Sammie Puentes belted a solo homer while two more runs scored on another Utah error.
Utah scored one run in the bottom of the fifth but it wasn't enough to prevent the rule-rule.
IN THE CIRCLE: Sophomore Megan Kleist improved to 10-0 on the season after allowing just one earned run on five hits in five innings. The right-hander struck out a pair and walked a pair as well.
AT THE DISH: Nikki Udria, Mia Camuso and Jenna Lilley each drove in two runs for the Ducks. Udria went 3-for-3 while Camuso and Alexis Mack each had two hits.
RUN-RULES: The Ducks have now run-ruled an opponent in 12 of their 28 games this season, including back-to-back games against top-25 teams.
