SENIOR AND DEFENDING SILVERADO SHOWDOWN CHAMPION CATHLEEN SANTOSO SHOT A 2-UNDER 70 TO LEAD THE DUCKS ON MONDAY IN THE SECOND ROUND IN NAPA, CALIF.
NAPA, Calif. – The Oregon's women golf team received a strong showing from senior Cathleen Santoso but struggled as a team in the second round of the Silverado Showdown on Monday afternoon at the Silverado Country Club.
The Ducks shot an 11-over 299 as a team on Monday after opening the tournament with a 2-over 290 on Sunday, and go into Tuesday's final round in a tie for ninth place on the team leaderboard at 13-over. Stanford leads the 18-team field at 17-under.
How it Happened: After going 3-over on Sunday, Santoso put together a stellar round on Monday to climb 17 spots on the individual leaderboard. The defending Silverado Showdown champion bounced back from a bogey on No. 3 with three straight birdies to go 2-under on the front nine, and then shot even on the back nine to post a 2-under 70 in the round. Santoso is currently tied for 22nd overall at 1-over. Stanford's Andrea Lee leads the field at 8-under.
Senior Marcella Pranovia strung together a very strong finish to the second round and sits in a tie for 31st overall at 3-over par. After shooting 3-over on the front nine to start the day, Pranovia made par on her next six holes before carding an eagle on No. 17 to shoot 2-under on the back nine and finish the round with a very respectable 1-over 73.
Sophomore Kathleen Scavo wasn't able to replicate her tremendous start to the tournament after shooting a 3-under 69 on Sunday. Scavo carded a 7-over 79 in the second round, and is currently tied for 34th overall at 4-over.
Junior Kelsey Ulep is tied for 48th overall at 6-over for the tournament after going 6-over (78) on Monday. Ulep was at even-par entering the day after firing a 72 in yesterday's first round. Sophomore Petra Salko rounds out the Oregon lineup at 9-over after shooting a 6-over 78 on Monday.
What it Means: After a strong start in Sunday's opening round, Oregon will look to finish the Silverado Showdown well on Tuesday after falling six places on the leaderboard on Monday. The Ducks have finished in the top five in the tournament each of the last three years.
Notable: Pranovia has one of just three eagles in the tournament so far … Pranovia has been great on par-3 holes so far in the tournament, going 2-under so far on those holes … Scavo and Santoso are both 2-under on par-5 holes thus far … Santoso is 1-under on par-4 holes.
Up Next: The final round of the Silverado Showdown will go off tomorrow at 8 a.m. PT with a shotgun start.
