RAEVYN ROGERS HAS BEEN NAMED THE PAC-12 WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK AND THE USTFCCCA WOMEN'S DI NATIONAL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK AFTER BREAKING THE 27-YEAR-OLD 800M COLLEGIATE RECORD OVER THE WEEKEND
EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon track and field junior Raevyn Rogers has been named both the Pac-12 women's track athlete of the week and the USTFCCCA women's DI athlete of the week after an incredible weekend at the Mt. SAC Relays, the organizations announced on Tuesday.
Rogers earned the honors after breaking the 27-year-old collegiate record in the 800 meters at Mt. SAC on Saturday, finishing in 1:59.10 to beat Suzy Hamilton's (Wisconsin) previous record of 1:59.11, set in June of 1990. Rogers also beat out former Duck great Laure Roesler (1:59.54) to win the race that featured mostly professionals.
Rogers was also a part of a terrific 4x400 relay team at Mt. SAC, running the anchor leg for a team that finished in 3:27.98 for the fifth-fastest time in Oregon history. This is the first Pac-12 weekly honor of the year for Rogers, and the second USTFCCCA weekly honor.
The collegiate record is the second of 2016-17 for Rogers, who helped the women's DMR team claim the record at the Columbia East-West Challenge in New York back in January. The Women of Oregon have now broken five collegiate records in 2016-17 (indoor DMR, indoor 60m, 4x100, 4x200, 800m).
