A week after two programs received NCAA Public Recognition Awards, seven UO teams are announced to have perfect APR scores for 2015-16.
EUGENE, Ore. – Three programs in the Oregon athletic department posted a multiyear APR score of a perfect 1,000 for the four years ending in 2015-2016, according to data released Wednesday by the NCAA.
The NCAA's Academic Progress Rate measures eligibility, retention and graduation of student-athletes. A perfect score is 1,000, with data released annually for the latest single year – in this case 2015-16 – and also a rolling four-year average through that most recent year. A four-year average of 930 is necessary to compete in NCAA championships.
The three UO programs to post a perfect average were women's golf, men's tennis and beach volleyball – Oregon's fledgling beach volleyball program having submitted APR data for the first time in 2015-16. Last week, women's golf and men's tennis received Public Recognition Awards from the NCAA for posting multiyear averages in the top 10 percent nationally for their sports; beach volleyball will be eligible for similar recognition once it has multiyear data available following the current academic year.
Women's golf, men's tennis and beach volleyball were also three of the seven UO programs to post perfect single-year APR scores of 1,000 for 2015-16. Joining them were men's cross country, women's basketball, women's lacrosse and women's tennis.
Oregon's football program remained steady, posting a single-year score of 976 for 2015-16, raising the multiyear average to 974. The men's basketball team also posted a single-year score of 976 for 2015-16, raising its multiyear average to 951.
The men's basketball team's jump from 945 to 951 put every UO program at least 21 points above the cut-off for postseason participation.
