EUGENE, Ore. - University of Oregon freshman Shannon Rhodes took home Most Valuable Player honors at the NCAA Division I Women's Softball Championship Eugene Regional after leading the third-seeded Ducks (50-6) into the Super Regional round.
Rhodes, a center fielder from Fort Worth, Texas, led all players in the four-team tournament with a .778 batting average (7-for-9). Two of her seven hits went for extra bases as she scored four runs and drove in four more.
Oregon led all teams with seven players selected to the all-regional squad. Wisconsin (35-17) had four representatives while Illinois-Chicago (39-22) had one.
