
NCAA Honors Two Programs For Academics

The Oregon women's golf and men's tennis teams received the NCAA's Public Recognition Award on Wednesday for their performance in the classroom.
EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon women's golf team continues to be among the nation's most academically elite programs, having earned the NCAA's Public Recognition Award for the ninth time in the 12-year history of the honor, it was announced Wednesday.
The UO men's tennis team also received the Public Recognition Award for its multi-year Academic Progress Rate as of the 2015-16 academic year. Programs are honored with the award for posting a multiyear APR in the top 10 percent nationally within their sport.
Single-year data from 2015-2016, and updated four-year averages, will be released by the NCAA for all teams on Wednesday, May 10.
In the 2014-15 release a year ago, UO women's golf scored a perfect 1,000 for that year, raising its four-year average to 1,000 as well. UO men's tennis had a four-year average of 993 through 2014-15.
The UO athletic department had two programs honored in the same academic year for the first time since 2006-07. Women's golf coach Ria Scott's program received the Public Recognition Award for the second year in a row; UO women's golf also received the honor for its academic performance in every year between 2005 and 2011.
In all, 1,203 teams from 306 NCAA schools received a Public Recognition Award on Wednesday. The honor was based on APR data from the 2012-13 through 2015-16 academic years, measuring retention, eligibility and graduation of team members.
