SENIOR MARCELLA PRANOVIA SHOT A CAREER-LOW-TYING 67 (-5) ON TUESDAY TO LEAD THE DUCKS, WHO ARE TIED FOR THIRD OVERALL ENTERING WEDNESDAY'S FINAL ROUND OF THE LUBBOCK NCAA REGIONAL
LUBBOCK, Texas – Senior Marcella Pranovia matched the best round of her career with a 5-under 67 on Tuesday to lead the Oregon women's golf team to a 1-over 289 in the second round of the NCAA Regionals at The Rawls Course.
The Ducks (294-289—583, +7) sit in a tie for third overall heading into Wednesday's final round, with the top six at the end of the 54-hole tournament advancing to the NCAA Championships in Sugar Grove, Ill. (May 19-24). Oregon currently has a nine-stroke cushion from falling below the cut line to make its second-straight NCAA Championship. Arizona State leads the team race at 6-under par.
How it Happened: Pranovia had her game working from the start of the round, carding an eagle on her second hole of the day to quickly dip two strokes below par. After a bogey on No. 3, Pranovia birdied the both No. 4 and No. 9 to finish her front nine at 3-under par. The Bali, Indonesia, native then made par on her first seven holes of the back nine before making birdie on the final two to card a 5-under 67, the best round of the day in the 96-player field.
After dipping her tournament score to 1-under par with her terrific round, Pranovia enters Wednesday's final round in a tie for seventh overall, and is just four strokes back of Arizona State's Monica Vaughn, who leads the field at 5 under.
Fellow senior Cathleen Santoso, who entered the second round in second place after a 3-under 69 on Monday, shot a 3-over 75 in the second round and is in a tie for 10th at even par. Santoso and Pranovia both enter Wednesday's final round in striking distance for the individual medalist honors.
Junior Kelsey Ulep put together a strong round for the Ducks after a 4-over 76 on Monday, using four birdies to record a 1-over 73. Ulep was 1 under on her first nine holes, and birdied her final hole to lower her score. She is at 5 over on the tournament and tied for 28th overall. Sophomore Petra Salko also sits at 5-over par after the second round. The Turku, Finland, native fired a 2-over 74 in the second round, and was 1 under across her final six holes.
Sophomore Kathleen Scavo rounded out the Oregon lineup with a 4-over 76, and is 6-over par for the tournament and tied for 36th.
What it Means: The Ducks have strung together two quality rounds to kick off their 10th straight NCAA Regional, and are in great position to advance entering Wednesday's final round. Oregon is looking to make it back to the NCAA Championships after finishing tied for fifth last season, the best finish in program history.
