09/21/17 | Men's Golf
EUGENE, Ore. - The Oregon men's golf team will head south to play in the inaugural Trinity Forest Invitational at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas, Texas. The three-round tournament runs from Sunday to Tuesday with the first round beginning Sunday at 6:20 a.m. PT.
For the second consecutive week, Oregon will be one of the marquee teams in a strong field. The Ducks are one of six teams in the 13-team tournament that qualified for the NCAA Championships last year. Addtionally, seven teams were ranked in the preseason with No. 6 Texas, No. 8 USC, No. 9 Oregon, No. 13 Auburn, No. 17 Clemson, No. 22 Texas Tech and No. 23 Pepeprdine all picked in the Top 25 by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Ball State, Florida, Iowa, Kansas State, North Texas and host SMU make up the rest of the field.
The Ducks are coming off a fourth-place finish in their season-opening tournament at the Rod Myers Invitational. Norman Xiong turned the momentum he built over the summer into a season-opening win at the Rod Myers Invitational. Xiong shot a 12-under par 204 over the three rounds to share individual medalist honors with Wake Forest's Will Zalatoris.
Oregon will send Xiong, Ryan Gronlund, Donald Kay, Edwin Yi and Sam Foust while Kymer Li will play as an individual. Kay and Li will be playing in their first collegiate events after sitting out last weekend.
