EUGENE, Ore. - Oregon men's tennis head coach Nils Schyllander announced the upcoming fall slate for the Ducks Wednesday featuring six road tournaments in preparation for the spring dual-match season.
Select Ducks will compete at the ITA All-American Championships Sept. 30 – Oct. 9, before Oregon opens their team schedule traveling to Idaho for the Boise Invitational Oct. 6-8.
Following the trip to Boise, UO will head to California for ITA Regionals, Oct. 19-23, and the ITA Fall Nationals, Nov. 1-5. The Ducks wrap up their fall season splitting players between the Easley Memorial in Las Vegas and the Gopher Invitational in Minneapolis which both take place from Nov. 3-5.
This year's team returns seven players from last season's squad that posted a 19-7 dual record while making a run to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Junior Thomas Laurent will be a leader for the Ducks after a breakout sophomore season in which he broke the Oregon single season record with 30 match victories earning him all-Pac-12 first-team honors. Laurent won a blistering 18 matches in a row during his stellar 2016-17 season. The French international will be joined by doubles partner Cormac Clissold who returns for his senior season.
Clissold and Laurent combined for a team best 24-6 doubles record last year. The duo are currently second all-time at Oregon with a 44-8 career doubles record heading into their final season as a pair.
Senior Simon Stevens will look to secure his name in the record books as well during his final season at Oregon. The Charleroi, Belgium native is 12th on UO's career singles victory list with a 55-27 record in his previous three seasons.
Akihiro Tanaka is the final senior on the men's tennis squad looking to help lead the Ducks back to the NCAA Tournament. Tanaka was named the ITA Northwest Rookie of the Year in his first season with Ducks after posting a 16-8 singles record last year. He will be joined by juniors Armando Soemarno and Ethan Young-Smith along with sophomore Ty Gentry for the upcoming fall slate.
