T&F Preview: Women's Jumps and Combined Events
01/07/18 | Track and Field
Previewing the Oregon track and field program by event groups entering the start of the 2018 indoor season (Jan. 13)
Head coach Robert Johnson: "We are fortunate to have both Rhesa Foster and ChaQuinn Cook back, both are Pac-12 champions and were great additions for us last year. Mixing them in with a couple returners and adding Seth Henson to coach the vertical jumps and multi-events, I am really excited to work with this group and see how they develop for the Women of Oregon."
WOMEN'S HORIZONTAL JUMPS (Long Jump, Triple Jump)
Who's back: The Women of Oregon bring back a pair of big pieces from last year's Triple Crown squad as they return the Pac-12 champions in both the long jump and the triple jump. Rhesa Foster (below) burst onto the scene as a freshman last year, winning the conference title in the long jump before going on to qualify for both the NCAA Championships and the Pan American Junior Championships. Junior ChaQuinn Cook also enjoyed a strong first season as a Duck last year after transferring from Portland State, taking first place in the triple jump at both the Pac-12 Championships and the NCAA West Regionals before earning second-team all-American honors at the NCAA Championships. Cook's personal-best leap of 44-4 (13.51m) is currently second all-time at Oregon. Elisa Trujillo also returns for the Ducks in 2018 after redshirting her true freshman season last year.

Who's new: Johnson will have a familiar group to work with in the horizontal jumps as no newcomers have been added to this group for 2018.
WOMEN'S VERTICAL JUMPS (High Jump, Pole Vault)
Who's back: The Ducks return one familiar face in the vertical jumps, but it will be a relatively unfamiliar face for Oregon fans. Ashlyn Hare (below) is back with the Ducks for her second year, but she missed all of last season with an injury after transferring from Vanderbilt. A redshirt sophomore, Hare will look to become a factor in the high jump as she gets back into competition form.

Who's new: Oregon does not have any newcomers for 2018 in the vertical jumps.
WOMEN'S COMBINED EVENTS (Pentathlon, Heptathlon)
Who's back: There are no returners in the combined events for the UO women in 2018.
Who's new: The Ducks added one newcomer to potentially make an impact in the combined events: Oregon native and West Salem High School graduate Keira McCarrell (below). McCarrell, the 2015 USATF Oregon female multi-event and field athlete of the year, was a standout in the javelin for West Salem, but she also succeeded in a number of other events and posted a heptathlon personal-best of 4,354 points. Johnson, Henson and throws coach Erik Whitsitt will work with McCarrell during her freshman season to see where she can be the most help to the team.
