Ducks Score Five in the Sixth in 9-3 Win Over Ole Miss

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico – Allee Bunker's bases-clearing double with two outs in the top of the sixth blew open a close game as No. 24 Oregon pulled away from Ole Miss, 9-3, Saturday at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.
"That's Bunk," said head coach Melyssa Lombardi. "That was her moment. In that situation, I knew she was going clutch up. That's what she does."
With the Ducks (2-2) holding a 4-1 lead, Bunker sat on a 2-0 pitch and drove the ball deep into left center, scoring Vallery Wong, Ariel Carlson and KK Humphreys for a 7-1 advantage.
"It's always a tough situation being bases loaded, two outs," said Bunker, who tied her career high with four RBI against the Rebels. "I feel the pressure for sure, but I knew that my previous at-bats in the game were setting me up for success. I just had to stay calm and just do my thing."
That was more than enough support for starter Morgan Scott (1-0) who went six strong innings to earn her first win as a Duck.
How it Happened: Oregon opened the scoring with a pair of two-out runs in the top of the first inning. Humphreys walked and stole second. An out later, Alyssa Daniell drove in Humphreys with a single and then Terra McGowan dropped a hit into right field to score Daniell.
"I thought those two runs were really important," said Lombardi. "We've had a bit of a tough time scoring so getting those runs gave us really good momentum for the rest of the game."
The Rebels (1-1) cut Oregon's lead in half with a run in the fourth, but the Ducks answered in the fifth. Kedre Luschar walked and went to third on a single by Humphreys. Bunker's RBI ground out scored Luschar.
Paige Sinicki got Oregon's big sixth inning underway with a leadoff double. Wong dropped a fly ball into shallow left field and two Ole Miss fielders collided before either could get to the ball. Wong sprinted around to third for her first career triple as a Duck, scoring Sinicki on the play.
Carlson then drew a one-out walk and stole second. Humphreys walked with two outs, setting the stage for Bunker's game-breaker. Daniell followed Bunker's double with an RBI single to score Bunker for an 8-1 lead.
The Ducks scored a final run in the seventh. Sinicki led off with her third hit of the game and stole second. She scored on Carlson's one-out single to center field.
Scott went 6.0 innings and allowed three runs on six hits. She struck out five and walked one. Scott retired the side in order in the second, fifth and sixth innings.
"The main this focus for this game was to get ahead and trust my defense," said Scott.
Noteworthy: Bunker has a four-game hitting streak to open the 2023 season … It was Bunker's fourth career four-RBI game … Sinicki matched her career high in hits – three – for the second time in four games … Luschar had two hits in the lead-off spot and is hitting .465 (5-of-11) for the tournament.

"We had some ups and down here in Puerto Vallarta in part to some tough, tough pitching, but I think we bounced back really well from a tough, tough loss last night (to No. 3 Oklahoma State) and put two runs on the board early."
Pitcher Morgan Scott on Kyla Morris' SportsCenter Top-10 worthy diving catch in the fourth inning
"I was so amped up I think that's the loudest I've probably yelled in a while. I was so excited for her."
On Deck: Oregon wraps up the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge by facing North Dakota State at 6:30 a.m. Pacific on Sunday. The game will be live streamed on FloSoftball.com.
