Bird’s Bases-Clearing Double Lifts Ducks

FULLERTON, Calif. – Tehya Bird hit a double with the bases loaded in the third inning and Stevie Hansen won her ninth consecutive decision as No. 20 Oregon defeated Fresno State, 6-2, Thursday at the Judi Garman Classic.
Hansen went six innings in running her record to 9-2 on the season. At one point, she retired 13 of 14 batters before giving up an unearned run in the seventh. Hansen struck out six, walked one and gave up just two hits.
How it Happened: Fresno State (7-6) took an early lead with a run in the first inning, but it could have been a lot worse. The Bulldogs loaded the bases on starter Raegan Breedlove and got a run on a sacrifice fly to center field. But the next batter, Bella Rocco, hit into an around-the-horn double play to end the inning.
The Ducks (13-3) tied the game in the bottom of the inning. Allee Bunker reached base on an infield single and went to second on a throwing error. KK Humphreys then singled to bring Bunker home.

After the first two Fresno State batters reached base in the second inning, Hansen came out of the pen and got the next three outs on a pop up, a force at third and a fly ball to Kyla Morris in center field to prevent any runs from scoring.
Oregon took advantage of Fresno State's wildness to score four time in the third. With one out, three straight batters drew walks – Bunker, Humphreys and Karissa Ornelas – and then Bunker scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-1. After another walk to Ariel Carlson reloaded the bases, Bird doubled to the wall in right center and all three runners came around to score and make it 5-1.
Carlson added an opposite field home run, her second of the season, in the fifth inning for the Ducks' final run of the game. Carlson was 2-for-2 on Thursday and scored twice.
Noteworthy: Bunker moved into sole possession of fifth on the UO career hits list with 235. She passed Julie Cavanaugh (234/1988-91). Next up in fourth is Samantha Pappas (238/2010-13) … Hansen is tied for the NCAA lead with nine wins … Humphreys has reached base in 15-of-16 games this season.
On Deck: The Ducks play twice in the Judi Garman Classic on Friday: Minnesota at 12:30 p.m. and Cal Poly at 5:30 p.m.
